PRESENTATION

                                                                                           

 

 

Doug Paterson, Co-owner of the Richmond Sockeyes, thanked members of Council and staff for their support and spoke about the team’s latest successes and achievements, which include 15 straight wins in a row, and receiving the ‘Most Sportsmanlike Award’.  Mr. Paterson introduced the others in attendance, including Co-owner Maurice Lamberk, graduating players Rudi Thorsteinson, Matthew Wagner, and Jeremy Hamaguchi, General Manager, Richard Petrowsky, and Mas Morimoto, responsible for Community Affairs and Public Relations.

 

 

Mr. Paterson noted that the Richmond Sockeyes won five cups this season, which is the maximum number of cups that any team can win in a season.   He also noted that this year represented the Sockeyes’ 40th anniversary, and then spoke about the Annual Alumni Game and a golf event which raise funds for team scholarships.  He noted that in 11 years approximately $163,000 has been raised, and a banquet is planned for this year at which 15 scholarships will be awarded.

 

 

On behalf of the City of Richmond, Mayor Brodie thanked the Richmond Sockeyes, congratulating the team and expressing pride and appreciation for the team’s achievements.

Request of Support from City of Port Alberni for Development of a Container Trans-Shipment and Short Sea Shipping Terminal by the Port Alberni Port Authority

That the City of Port Alberni be advised that:

 

 

(1)

there is insufficient information available at this time for Council to make an informed decision regarding support for the proposed development of a container trans-shipment and short sea shipping terminal by the Port Alberni Port Authority; and

 

 

(2)

the request can be reconsidered upon completion of the Port Alberni Port Authority’s feasibility study of the proposal, which should include the comparative analysis of alternative options to increase short sea shipping in the Lower Mainland.

Admiralty Point Federal Lands

That a letter be sent to the Federal Government in support of the request to transfer the Admiralty Point Federal Lands in fee simple to Metro Vancouver, or lease the lands in perpetuity, to ensure the preservation of these lands for park-use by future generations of Metro Vancouver’s citizens.
