Item No. 14B – Minoru Complex Multipurpose Room Alternatives |
Jim Lamond, Chair, Richmond Sports Council, stated that Richmond Sports Council prefers to see the multipurpose room located on the second floor of the Minoru Complex to allow for unobstructed views of the adjacent fields; he further remarked that sharing the multipurpose room will not meet the needs of various organizations represented by the Richmond Sports Council. |
Item No. 14B – Minoru Complex Multipurpose Room Alternatives |
Bob Jackson, Vice-Chair, Richmond Sports Council, spoke on the logistics of events like track and field meets held at sport complexes, noting that the proposed multipurpose room alternatives do not lend themselves well for such events as the room is too far from the events’ centre of operations. Also, Mr. Jackson was of the opinion that sightlines to the adjacent fields during an event would be obstructed by event attendees and therefore, a multipurpose room on the ground floor was not practical. He queried the type of flooring anticipated to be used in the multipurpose room, citing concern with accelerated wear and tear by pedestrian traffic as a result of footwear like cleats and spiked shoes. Mr. Jackson then suggested that the proposed multipurpose room be designated to the Richmond Fitness and Wellness Association, stating that the Richmond Sports Council would await the results of the future Minoru Park Master Plan. |
In reply to a query from the Chair, Mr. Lamond stated that the Richmond Sports Council prefers Alternative 4 – the “Hub” concept. |
