The Chair called the meeting to order at 4:01 p.m.

It was moved and seconded

 

 

That the minutes of the meeting of the General Purposes Committee held on Monday, December 20, 2010, be adopted as circulated.

CORPORATE SERVICES DEPARTMENT

 

 

1.

Global Accessibility Initiative

(File Ref. No.:  07-3300-01/2010-Vol 01) (REDMS No. 3062366)

 

 

A brief discussion took place about: (i) the benefits that would be realized by people living with disabilities as a result of the Global Accessibility Initiative; (ii) the five star rating system and how it would apply to the hotel industry; and (iii) staffing needs in order to implement the proposed initiative.

 

 

 

It was moved and seconded

 

 

That the City’s participation in the Global Accessibility Initiative, be endorsed as outlined in the report from the Deputy Chief Administrative Officer, dated December 7, 2010.

2.

HAMILTON COMMUNITY CENTRE EXPANSION (2010) PUBLIC ART PROJECT(File Ref. No.) (REDMS No. 3080014)

 

 

Eric Fiss, Public Art Planner, introduced Mia Weinberg, Artist for the public art project “Hamilton History Makers”. A brief discussion took place about the materials proposed for the art project, including the colour scheme, text, images, and other details.

 

 

It was moved and seconded

 

 

That the concept proposal and installation of the Hamilton Community Centre Expansion (2010) Public Art Project “Hamilton History Makers” by artist Mia Weinberg, as presented in the staff report from the Director, Arts, Culture & Heritage Services dated December 6, 2010, be endorsed.

3.

Steveston Community Centre Tennis Building Improvements

(File Ref. No.:  06-2050-20-STB/Vol 01) (REDMS No. 3081605)

 

 

In answer to queries, Greg Scott, Director, Project Development, advised that Steveston Community Centre Tennis Building improvements would begin immediately after approval of funding.

 

 

It was moved and seconded

 

 

That $300,000 of the surplus funds from the Steveston Fire Hall project be reallocated to the Steveston Community Centre Tennis Building Improvements project.
