Waterfront Coordinator Position for Britannia Shipyards and Imperial Landing
(File Ref. No. 11-7141-01) (REDMS No. 6766200)
Staff noted the Blue Cabin floating artist residency is a temporary two-year program and that discussions with community partners will take place to look at options to further utilize the space in the future.
Discussion ensued with respect to the role and responsibilities of the coordinator position to support the presence of heritage vessels at the docks, further facilitate the programming for heritage vessel visits and grow relationships with other heritage vessel owners. Additionally, during the first year of the role, staff would be further articulating exactly how these operations are going to work in a more detailed way, including working with neighboring facilities in the coordination of marketing opportunities for the area. Staff further noted that any future consideration to continue the temporary coordinator position would undergo a rigorous review.
A brief discussion ensued with respect to revenue sharing. Staff noted that following preliminary discussions the Society put forward a request for revenue sharing of 50/50, but there has not been any further discussions. Staff also noted that the potential long range revenue is challenging to determine at this time.
It was moved and seconded
That Option 1, funding for the one-time expense of $84,871 for a temporary Waterfront Coordinator position, be considered in the 2022 budget process as detailed in the staff report titled “Waterfront Coordinator Position for Britannia Shipyards and Imperial Landing,” dated October 15, 2021 , from the Director, Arts, Culture and Heritage Services and the Director, Parks.
