The Chair called the meeting to order at 4:00 p.m. |

Partners For Beautification 2004 Update and Volunteer Recognition Event (Report: April 15th, 2004, File No.: 11-7200-01) (REDMS No. 1221494) |

Mr. Mike Redpath, Manager, Parks Program Planning and Design, advised that he would be available to answer questions. In response to a query from Committee, Mr. Redpath advised that 125 smaller calliper trees, some from the City's nursery, some to be purchased, would be planted on an as yet undetermined site on McDonald Bay. |

1. That the report Partners For Beautification Update and 2004 Recognition Event (dated April 15th, 2004 from the Director of Parks Operations) be received for information; and |
|
|
2. That May 29th, 2004 be proclaimed Partners for Beautification Volunteer Recognition Day. |

LEASED AREA FOR ROWING CENTRE AT 7411 RIVER ROAD (Report: April 6th, 2004; File No. 03-1000-14-084/Vol 01) (REDMS No. 1219419, 1045493) |

Mr. Redpath, Manager, Parks Planning and Design, advised that he was available to answer questions. |
|
|
In response to queries from the Committee, he stated that the new location was safer and removed from the motorized water craft at the Richmond Yacht Club. He also advised that potential for beautification and/or sponsorship on this site would be discussed at the development permit stage of the process. |

That the proposed lease area for the future UBC Thunderbird Rowing and Paddling Centre be approved, as set out in the report (dated April 6th, 2004 from the Director of Parks Operations). |

4. |
POLLUTION IN MINORU PARK |
|
|
Staff were requested to investigate the pollution of Minoru Park by ducks and geese. In response, Mr. Semple, Director of Parks Operations, advised that staff were aware of the issue and would be reporting to Committee on this matter in the near future. |
|
5. |
PHOTOGRAPHY AT MINORU CHAPEL |
|
|
Staff were requested to investigate the possibility of photography revenue/sponsorship opportunities at Minoru Chapel/Park. |
|

6. |
MANAGERS REPORT |
|
|
Mr. Wayne Yee, Coordinator, Youth Services introduced the team who would be in charge of various activities for youth week. The team introduced themselves and spoke briefly about the activities which would be ongoing during Youth Week. |
|
|
Mr. Mike Redpath, Manager, Parks Planning and Design, advised that he would be presenting designs for the McLennan South Park to the neighbourhood. He would also be presenting the plans for Terra Nova at a public open house. He then noted that the Sports Awards, hosted by the Sports Council would be held on May 5th at City Hall. |
|

Mr. Vern Jacques, Manager, Community Recreation Services, gave a brief update on the Richmond Youth Soccer Program advising that their financial affairs were now in order. Committee then commended the Parks, Recreation, and Cultural Services Division on the content of the new Leisure Service Guide. |
|
