COMMUNITY REQUEST FOR A PILOT DOGS OFF LEASH AREA PROGRAM AT GARRY POINT PARK FEBRUARY 2002 TO MARCH 31ST, 2002 FRIENDS OF GARRY POINT

STAFF RECOMMENDATION

   

That:

   

(1)

staff undertake the "Proposed Designated Dog Off Leash Pilot Program for Garry Point Park February 2002 to March 31, 2002" (as outlined and designated by map in Attachment 1 to the report dated December 10th, 2001, from the Manager, Parks Administration & Planning);

   

(2)

the permitted times for the off leash area be designated from 6:00 am to 10:00 am and from 4:00 pm to 9:00 pm on a daily basis and that the times and area be clearly posted via temporary signage at Garry Point for the duration of the pilot project; and

   

(3)

staff report to the Parks Recreation and Cultural Services Committee in May, 2002 with results of the pilot project and to determine if the winter dogs off leash pilot project should be undertaken on an annual basis.

BID: 2010 WINTER OLYMPIC AND PARALYMPIC GAMES

STAFF RECOMMENDATION

   

That Council (as per the report dated January 23, 2002 from the Manager, Policy Planning):

   

(1)

approve a contribution to the 2010 Winter Olympic Games bid, as follows:

     

(a)

- an initial contribution of $250,000 in 2002;

     

(b)

- a second contribution of $250,000 in 2003;

   

(2)

appoint the following Council members to the 2010 Winter Olympic Games bid working committee(s):

     

(a)

- the Mayor;

     

(b)

- the Chairperson of the City's Parks, Recreation and Cultural Services Committee; and

   

(3)

authorize the City Staff Team to continue participating in the 2010 Winter Olympic Games bid process, subject to Councils direction.
