PROVINCIAL CHILD CARE FUNDING CUTS

STAFF RECOMMENDATION

That, as per the Manager of Policy Planning report dated February 28, 2007, the City explore the possibility of restoring the Richmond Child Care Resource and Referral Centre (RCCRRC) and/or its services, should this be required, by:

(1)

having Real Estate Services investigate the availability of City-owned buildings to accommodate the Centre;

(2)

approving a consulting budget of $20,000 to enable the current City contracted Child Care Coordinator to consult with community stakeholders (e.g., Child Care Development Advisory Committee [lead], Richmond Community Services Advisory Committee), to determine how the Centre might be sustained;

(3)

having Parks, Recreation and Cultural Services, over the longer term, consider the viability of incorporating the Centre into City community centres and community service hubs; and

(4)

forwarding this report to the City School Board Liaison Committee for information.
