RICHMOND OLYMPIC OFFICE

1.

Richmond Winter Festival 2009

(Report:  January 22, 2009, File No.:  11-7400-20-RWFE1-2009-Vol 01) (REDMS No. 2566081)

The Director, Richmond Olympic Office, Kate Sparrow, accompanied by the Events Development Manager, Ann Phelps, advised that the City’s contribution towards the Richmond Winter Festival 2009 would be $90,000.

Discussion ensued during which, staff was requested to provide a break down of the financial details related to the City’s contribution to specific services and activities.

Cathryn Carlile, General Manager - Parks, Recreation & Cultural Services, clarified that the City’s contribution towards the 2009 Winter Festival was the same as it had been for the 2008 Winter Festival.  She further clarified that the 2008 contribution consisted of $70,000 from the General Contingency Fund, and another $20,000 as a one time additional level.  This year, however, the City’s entire contribution, for the amount of $90,000, would come from the General Contingency fund.  She also noted that the event would have the same level of service as last year with a much larger in-kind contribution from sponsors.

It was moved and seconded

That a budget of $90,000 for event expenses and City Services be allocated from General Contingency, for the 2009 Richmond Winter Festival.

The question on the motion was not called, as in answer to questions staff advised that staffing requirements for litter removal, security and traffic would be integrated in the budget.  Discussion also took place about the involvement of school children, including a choir and orchestra, as well as other groups in the Winter Festival.

The question on the motion was then called, and it was CARRIED.
