RESPONSE TO REFERRAL TO PROVIDE UPDATES ON VISIONS FOR THE WATERFRONT STRATEGY, BRITANNIA BUSINESS PLAN, THE HERITAGE & MUSEUM STRATEGY AND PROVIDE CONTEXT FOR THE ACQUISITION OF A VESSEL SUCH AS THE BRORA THOR

STAFF RECOMMENDATIONS

 

 

(1)

That staff be directed to report back to Council on the Vision (program) to position Richmond as a community that celebrates its maritime location and heritage; and

 

 

(2)

That staff be directed to report back to Council on the Major Events program for pre, during and post 2010 Vancouver Olympic and Paralympic Games; and

 

 

(3)

That Council authorize staff to make a legal Conditional offer to purchase the sailing vessel Brora Thor subject to:

 

 

 

(a)

a 90 day closing period;

 

 

 

(b)

a successful survey and sea trial based on criteria determined for highest and best potential desired use;

 

 

 

(c)

confirmation that appropriate renovations can be made to accommodate highest and best potential desired use;

 

 

 

(d)

Council approval;  and

 

 

(4)

That staff report back to Council on the Business Case for the acquisition of a sailing vessel in general and the Brora Thor in particular prior to final decision regarding the purchase.
